Your best mentor might be the twenty-three-year-old shift lead, not the person with the fancy title.

Useful teaching usually comes from whoever is close enough to your problem to remember it. Somebody three years ahead of you knows which door sticks, how to talk to the difficult regular, what the manager actually checks. The person with the impressive title may be wiser in general and much further from the specifics of your Tuesday. Status and usefulness are different measurements.
Look around your job or your team for the person who is a short way ahead and good at it. Ask them one narrow question this week, something they can answer in a minute. Then do what they said and tell them it worked.
