Doing the drill you’re already good at is comfortable. Doing the one you’re bad at is honest.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Practice drifts towards the things that feel good to do. Repeating a strength produces a pleasant session and almost no improvement, and it has the added benefit of letting you avoid the part where you look clumsy in front of people. Most progress is stored in the drills you do not enjoy.

Give the first ten minutes of the next session to your weakest thing, while you are fresh rather than at the end. Expect it to look bad for a while. Tell the coach what you are working on, so somebody besides you knows to watch it.
