Quality becomes trustworthy when it remains good after novelty fades.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Anything new gets graded generously. The first weeks come with interest and goodwill, which cover a lot of weaknesses. The honest test happens later, when the novelty has worn off and the thing is simply part of the furniture, and whatever people still value about it then is the part that was actually good.
When you are excited about something new, put a note in your calendar a few months out to reassess. And when you make something, imagine it in its unglamorous phase and ask what will still be working then. Design for the boring stretch rather than the launch.
What have you kept for years and still trust completely?
