Don’t hand away credit you earned just to look humble. Being accurate about your part is honest too.

REFLECTION
Humility is accuracy, not subtraction. Giving away work you actually did feels safe because nobody can accuse you of bragging, but it leaves a false record behind, and false records tend to get repeated. Over time the people deciding who gets the next opportunity are working from a picture you helped distort.
When someone asks how a thing came together, say who did what, including yourself, in flat factual words. No speech, no apology for taking up space. If the sentence would be fine coming from someone else about their own work, it is fine coming from you.
Which work of yours did you let someone else be praised for?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
