When a friend is wrong, you notice in a second. When it’s you, it takes a week. Shorten the week.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
From the outside you see only the behaviour, so the error is obvious. From the inside you see all the reasons, and the reasons do a very good job of explaining the behaviour away. That asymmetry is normal and it is also expensive, because a week spent defending something is a week not spent fixing it.
Set a shorter clock on purpose. When you feel the first flicker of being wrong, give yourself a day instead of a week, then say the sentence. The embarrassment is the same size on day one and the damage is much smaller.
Whose error did you spot faster than your own this month?
