If the team’s culture is bad and you’re on the team, you’re part of the culture.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Culture is not a thing the leaders have and the rest of you receive. It is the sum of what gets laughed at, tolerated, repeated and ignored, and everyone present contributes a share of that, including by saying nothing. Describing it as somebody else’s problem is comfortable and also inaccurate.

Find the one small thing you take part in without meaning to. The joke you go along with, the complaint you add to. Stop doing that for two weeks and see what shifts. One person changes a room more than it feels like from inside it.
