“I was wrong” is three words. People respect them more than a hundred about why you were almost right.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
A clean admission ends a thing. The long version, the one that explains the reasoning that nearly made you right, keeps it open and asks the other person to grade your logic instead of accepting the point. People notice which you chose, and they relax around the short one, because it means they will not have to fight you to be heard. Almost right is still wrong.
Find the smallest thing you have been technically defending this week and drop it. Say the three words with nothing attached, not even a but. Notice how fast the conversation moves afterward, and how little you lost.
Where could three plain words replace your long explanation?
