Replaying an argument where you win doesn’t count. Replay the one where you might be wrong.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
The imaginary rerun where you are devastating is entertainment, not thinking. It takes the same twenty minutes as the useful version and leaves you more certain than when you started, because you have just watched yourself win repeatedly. Nothing new enters the room. The other rehearsal, the one where their point is good, is the only one that can change what you do.
Next time you catch the victory loop, switch it: run the version where they are right, and let it get uncomfortable. Ask what you would have to concede. Then go into the real conversation with that concession ready, which tends to shorten everything.
Which argument do you avoid revisiting because you might lose it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
