Asking for help becomes easier when inadequacy stops being confused with incompleteness.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Needing help gets tangled up with being inadequate, as though requiring anything reveals a deficiency in you. But nobody is complete on their own, and that has nothing to do with adequacy. Once you stop reading a gap as a fault and start reading it simply as a gap, asking becomes an ordinary act rather than a confession.

Watch the story that runs when you consider asking for something. If it says something about what kind of person you are, that is the piece to question. Try asking as plainly as you would ask for the time, and notice that the reaction you feared mostly does not come.
