Getting corrected in public stings. Arguing with the correction in public stings longer.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The first sting is short and mostly about being seen. Arguing extends it, because now the room is watching a contest instead of a correction, and whatever happens the moment belongs to you rather than to the point. People also remember the argument and not the original error, which is the opposite of what you wanted. A nod ends it in two seconds.

When it happens, say thanks or that is fair, and move on. If you think the correction was wrong, check it afterward and raise it privately with what you found. You lose nothing by being the person who takes it calmly in front of others.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When were you corrected in front of others, and what followed?
