Some of what humiliated you turns into competence later. The failure taught you something specific, or it gave you a familiarity with a kind of difficulty that other people have never had to develop. The equipment is real even though you would not have chosen how you acquired it.

Take something you would rather not remember and ask what it made you able to notice or handle. Write that down. It is a way of retrieving something from a chapter you have mostly been trying to leave behind.
