A history of inventions can overlook the people who made them usable every day.

Inventions arrive unfinished. Somebody had to install them, fix them, teach people to use them, keep the parts available, and absorb the failures until the thing became reliable enough to be ordinary. That work is enormous and it is not what gets recorded, because the story of invention is told as a moment of insight rather than as a decade of maintenance.
When you hear an origin story, ask who made it work in practice. In your own field the same distinction usually holds, and the people doing the second job are rarely the ones being cited. Naming them is easy and almost nobody does it.
