An adopted tradition can feel more deliberate than an inherited one without feeling less real.

REFLECTION
Something taken up deliberately can hold as much as something inherited. It lacks the automatic quality of what you were raised with, and it gains the fact that you examined it and chose it. Deliberateness is often mistaken for artificiality, when it may simply mean the practice was adopted with its meaning intact.
If you have taken something on, you do not owe anyone an account of your right to it. Learn it properly, from people who hold it, and let it become ordinary through repetition. Time will supply the automatic quality that choice cannot.
Which practice did you choose for yourself rather than receive?
