REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The same upbringing produces different accounts of itself. Two siblings, two people from the same town, the same history, and one calls it a hardship and the other calls it a foundation. Neither is misremembering. The material was the same and the meaning is made afterwards, by different people with different needs.

When someone from your own background reads it differently, resist correcting them. Ask what they saw. Common origin is not agreement, and expecting it to be is the source of a good deal of unnecessary conflict.
