The wealth displayed in a room may have been borrowed for the occasion.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Displays are often financed. The room, the car, the clothes, may be rented, borrowed, on credit, or arranged for the occasion, and you are seeing an assembled impression rather than an accumulated position. Wealth is easy to simulate and difficult to verify, which is exactly why it gets simulated.

When you find yourself measuring against what someone appears to have, remember that the appearance is the part designed to be seen. Do not make financial decisions in response to it. What people own and what they display have less in common than either suggests.
