The unfinished painting leaves the painter’s choices visible before they learn to disguise themselves.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

An unfinished work shows the decisions still standing in the open. You can see where the hand hesitated, what was tried and abandoned, how the thing was being built before the surface closed over the process. Finish is partly a disguise, and its removal is why studies and drafts can feel more alive than the completed version.

Keep your own unfinished things where you can see them. They teach you how you actually work, which finished pieces cannot. And when you are learning from someone, look for their process rather than only their results, because the visible decisions are the part you can borrow.
