The instrument contains possibilities that require a particular pair of hands to become audible.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

An instrument holds possibilities that stay silent until the right hands arrive. The wood and strings are identical for everyone, and yet some sounds simply do not exist until a particular person with a particular history plays it. The capability is jointly held, belonging neither entirely to the object nor entirely to the player.

The same is true of tools, teams, and relationships. Something in you may be waiting on a context that has not appeared, and something in a person near you may be waiting on you. Rather than asking only what you are capable of, ask what a given situation makes possible. Capacity is relational more often than we admit.
