A familiar tune can make a new message feel trustworthy before its words are considered.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

A familiar tune arrives with trust already attached. The recognition happens before any judgement, and the warmth of the melody transfers to whatever is riding on it, which is why advertisements and campaigns borrow songs people already love. You have been persuaded slightly before the message begins.

The defence is simple and worth practising. When something feels immediately trustworthy, ask what is doing that: the content, or the packaging, the voice, the format, the familiarity. Separate the two and evaluate the claim in plain form. Familiarity is a real pleasure and a poor guide, and keeping those apart is most of the skill.
