A garden is a place where one species decides which other species belong.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

A garden is a place where one species is doing the deciding. What counts as flower and what counts as weed is not a property of any plant but a judgement, maintained by continuous effort, and the effort is why the garden looks natural while being one of the most managed things around.

Notice how much of what looks like natural order in your life is actually maintained preference. The arrangements at home, the way a team works, the standards you enforce without discussing. None of these are wrong for being chosen. But knowing they are chosen, and by whom, makes it much easier to change them when they stop serving anyone.
