An invitation can create anxiety when the relationship has no language for declining it.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
An invitation is only kind when refusal is genuinely available. If the relationship has no comfortable way to say no, the offer arrives as a demand wearing friendly clothes, and the recipient has to choose between attending and causing damage. The anxiety comes from the missing exit rather than the event.
When you invite, build the exit in explicitly and mean it, and then respond to a refusal exactly as you would to an acceptance. That is the part that establishes whether the exit was real. And notice which of your own relationships lack that language, since it usually indicates something worth addressing beyond any particular occasion.
