A friendship can become harder when both people are waiting to be chosen first.

Two people can both be waiting to be chosen, and the result is that neither reaches out. Each reads the other’s caution as indifference, both are protecting themselves in exactly the same way, and the friendship stalls through symmetry rather than through any lack of care. It is a very common and entirely avoidable failure.

The only way out is for one of you to go first, and it might as well be you. Suggest something specific rather than saying you should catch up sometime. The risk is small and the information is valuable either way, and in most cases the other person has been waiting for exactly this.
