A familiar danger can become less noticeable without becoming less dangerous.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Familiarity reduces how much you notice a danger and does nothing to the danger. The unguarded step, the frayed cable, the road you cross without looking: each becomes invisible through repetition while remaining exactly as capable of harming you. Habituation is a fact about attention, not about risk.
So periodically walk your own environment as though new. Ask what a visitor would flag. Better still, ask an actual visitor, since they will see in ten minutes what you have stopped registering in ten years. The things most likely to hurt you are rarely novel; they are usually the ones you have successfully stopped seeing.
Which risk in your daily life have you stopped seeing?
