A packed box can contain a whole room without containing the feeling of being in it.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Everything from the room can be inside the box and the room itself is not in there. What made it a place was the arrangement, the light, the way you moved through it, and none of that survives the packing even though every object does. Contents and experience are different things.

Expect that when you move anything, a home, a team, a tradition. Rebuilding the collection does not rebuild the feeling, and the feeling comes back through use and time rather than through unpacking. Be patient with the interval, and pay attention to arrangement rather than inventory when you set things down again.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What did you take with you that failed to carry the feeling?
