If a name were assigned only after a life ended, nobody could spend a lifetime trying to live up to it.

REFLECTION
Naming after the fact would remove the strange business of spending a life inside a word chosen by someone who had not met you. No family expectations attached to a name, no inherited weight, no sense of a standard set before you arrived. Identity would summarize rather than instruct.
Worth asking what was assigned to you before you could object, in your name, your role in the family, the description that got attached early. Some of it you may want to keep. The rest is not a debt, and noticing which parts you have been living up to out of habit is the beginning of choosing.
What have you spent years trying to live up to?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
