The ordinary thing a child notices may be the thing your hurry stopped seeing.

Hurry works by filtering, and the filter is set to remove exactly what a child stops for. The beetle, the crack shaped like a river, the sound the gate makes: none of it helps you get anywhere, so your attention learned to drop it years ago. Their attention has not learned that yet, which is why walking with them takes so long and shows you so much. The world did not get less interesting; you got more efficient.
When a child stops for something small, stop with them for a moment instead of steering onward. Ask what they see rather than explaining what it is.
What did a child point out that you had stopped seeing?
