The friend who is rebuilding their life may need company that does not turn every visit into an update.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
After a rupture, much of the kindness a person receives arrives with a request attached. How are things going, what is the plan, any news yet: each one is meant well, and each asks them to file a report on the hardest stretch of their life. Company that requires no progress is rarer and often more restful. Sometimes the gift is an entirely ordinary afternoon.
Invite your friend to something small and let the conversation go wherever it wants. If they want to talk about it, they will. Saying you are around, without asking where things stand, leaves the choice with them.
Who gets interviewed by you instead of simply visited?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
