Some friendships grow stronger when visits become shorter and more regular.

The long overdue catch-up carries a lot of weight: months to summarize, a whole evening to fill, and an expectation that it be worth the wait. Shorter, more frequent contact skips the summary entirely, because you are already inside each other’s ordinary weeks. Frequency does more for closeness than duration does.
Trade one long-postponed evening for twenty minutes every couple of weeks. Keep it small enough that neither of you has to prepare. Being current with someone is a different pleasure from catching up, and often a better one.
Which of your friendships would suit shorter, more frequent visits?
