A courteous beginning does not excuse a pattern of inconsiderate endings.

It is easy to be gracious at the start of things, when nothing has been spent yet. The harder courtesy shows up at the close: the reply that ends a conversation properly, the goodbye that is not just a fade, the last message of a project that thanks someone by name. When beginnings are warm and endings are careless, people eventually believe the endings.
Look at how your last few things finished. A short note saying where something landed, or that you are stepping back, costs a minute. Endings are where most of the memory settles.
