The version of you people remember may need an introduction to the present one.

People keep whichever version of you they last had time to update. Old friends, family and former colleagues are relating to someone who was accurate five or fifteen years ago, and they are not being careless; they simply have no newer information. The gap tends to show up as being handed a role you have outgrown: the anxious one, the one who never cooks, the one with no opinions about money.
Rather than resenting the old picture, offer the current one in ordinary terms. Mention what you are doing now, or what you have changed your mind about. Most people update happily once they know there is something to update.
Who still knows only an older version of you?
