An honest plan includes the habits you actually have today.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Plans usually get written for a better-behaved version of you: the one who sleeps early, never loses an afternoon, and does the hard thing first. That person is not available. When the plan collapses in week two, the conclusion drawn is about willpower rather than about a plan designed for a stranger. Working with your real habits is not lowering the standard, it is the only way anything survives contact with a Tuesday.

Build the next plan around what you did last month rather than what you intend. Attach new things to habits that already hold. Leave room for the evenings you know you will not use.

Which plan assumes a version of you that does not exist?
