The first helpful answer can shape whether someone feels safe asking again.

The first question is a test of the room, whether or not anyone realises it. A patient answer tells the person that not knowing is acceptable here; a sigh, a rushed reply or a flicker of irritation tells them the opposite, and they will find another way to cope, usually a worse one. Nobody announces that they have stopped asking. You just notice, months later, that they were guessing.
Answer the first few questions from a new person as though you had all day, even when you do not. Add that they should come back with more. What you spend that first week comes back many times over.
