Attention turns moments into memories before memory ever gets involved.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Whether something becomes a memory is decided at the time it happens, by whether you were actually present for it. Memory cannot store what attention never took in, which is why whole periods can be lived and then remembered as a blur.

When you are somewhere you would want to remember, take thirty seconds of undivided attention. Look around properly. That small act is what determines whether the moment is available to you later.
