A comparison becomes less useful when you ignore the sacrifices you would not choose.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Half a comparison is worse than none. Looking at what someone has without looking at what they gave up produces a conclusion that could never have been reached honestly, and it always makes you the one who fell short. In truth many of those trades were available to you and you declined them, deliberately, for reasons you still believe in.
When a comparison starts running, finish the sum. Write down what that person has given up in hours, in relationships, in risk, and mark the ones you would refuse. Usually there are two or three, and they are the reason your life looks the way it does.
What sacrifice behind someone’s result would you refuse to make?
