A new neighbor’s ordinary kindness can make an unfamiliar street easier to return to.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Moving somewhere new means coming home each evening to a place that does not yet know you. A bin brought in, a parcel taken, a name remembered on the second meeting: these cost almost nothing and they change what the street feels like at the end of a long day.

Do the small thing for someone who has recently moved near you, rather than planning the large one. Say your name again, mention which house is yours, offer the piece of local knowledge they cannot look up. And if you are the newcomer, accept whatever is offered, because accepting is how the second conversation gets started.
