Respect for experience should include respect for the person still having experiences.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Honoring long service can quietly turn into discounting everyone who has not served long. The newer person gets treated as a draft of someone useful rather than as someone useful now, even though they are the one currently meeting the situation without the callus of habit. Experience carries pattern; inexperience carries fresh sight. A group that only respects the first ends up hearing about problems late.

In the next discussion, ask the newest person what they noticed before anyone senior frames it. Listen without translating their observation into a lesson they need. If you are the experienced one, say plainly which parts of your knowledge may be out of date.
