The care you put into an attempt remains real even when the answer is final.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Effort is not retroactively cancelled by an outcome. When the answer comes back final, there is a strong pull to reread everything you did as wasted, or worse as evidence that trying was foolish, and that reading is simply not accurate. The attention, the care and the hours were real events; what changed is only what came of them.

Let the disappointment be what it is without recruiting your earlier self into it. Write down what you actually did well, kept separate from the result. And when you are ready, notice that the same care is still yours to spend on whatever comes next.
