Some joy becomes easier to find when you stop expecting it to change the whole week.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Expecting joy to change everything sets a bar that ordinary joy cannot clear. A good hour becomes disappointing because Tuesday was still Tuesday afterwards, and a run of that teaches you that small pleasures do not work, when they were only ever meant to be themselves. Nothing that fits inside an afternoon can be asked to repair a week.

Let a good thing this week be exactly its own size. Notice it while it is happening and let it end without measuring the aftermath. Small pleasures found often do more across a year than a rare event asked to carry everything.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which small pleasure do you dismiss for being too small?
