Do not turn an uncertain timeline into a promise nobody made.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Estimates get firmer every time they are repeated. Someone says a thing might be ready next month, that becomes probably next month, and by the third retelling it is a date other people are planning around. Nobody lied, and yet a commitment now exists that no one ever agreed to, and the disappointment when it slips lands on whoever spoke first. Uncertainty is information, and it disappears fastest in the passing on.

When you relay a timeline this week, carry the doubt with it in the same sentence. Say what is confirmed and what is still a guess.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where have you repeated an estimate as a firm promise?
