The person who has carried something well deserves a chance to put it down responsibly.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Competence at a duty often becomes a life sentence. Whoever handled the accounts, the caregiving, the awkward relative or the committee did it well, so nobody else learned how, and now stepping away looks like abandonment rather than a reasonable end. Being good at something is not consent to do it forever. A proper handover is the difference between leaving a role and dropping it.

If you have carried something a long time, name an end date and start teaching someone. If you rely on such a person, ask them how long they want to keep going.
