A homecoming feels warmer when the first greeting is not a list of corrections.

The first minute of someone’s return sets the temperature for the evening. If it opens with what was left undone, the bill, the bin, the message not answered, the person walking through the door learns that arriving means being assessed. None of those items become less true for waiting twenty minutes. They just stop being the greeting.
Whoever comes home to you this week, give the first exchange to the person rather than the admin. Ask how the day went and listen to the answer. Bring up the practical things later, once you have both actually arrived.
What do you lead with when someone walks through the door?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
