A home for one can be complete without being closed to company.

Households of one get read as waiting rooms, either a stage before something else or the remains of it. A home can simply be a finished arrangement that suits the person living in it. Being complete does not mean being sealed; the same house can be entirely sufficient and still have the kettle on for whoever turns up. Self-sufficiency and welcome are not opposites, though they get treated that way.
