Rooms often run on a shared fiction that everyone understands what is happening. Each person holds their confusion privately, assumes they are the only one, and the meeting proceeds on an agreement nobody actually has. One person saying plainly that they are not sure breaks the arrangement, and the relief is usually visible. Certainty is contagious, but so is honesty about its absence.
Say so in ordinary words the next time you do not follow something, rather than asking a clever question that hides it. If you are the most senior person present, say it first.
Where would saying you are unsure free the whole room?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
