Do not call your change of mind flexibility when everyone else must absorb the cost.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Changing your mind is cheap for the person changing it. The word flexible sounds like an open, easy quality, but when a decision reverses late, someone else rebooks the room, redoes the work or explains it to a client, and none of that shows up in your experience of being adaptable. The virtue is being claimed while the bill goes elsewhere.
Before you revise a plan, ask who has already acted on the old one. Say the cost out loud when you announce the change, and take some of it yourself where you can. Flexibility that includes carrying part of the disruption is the kind other people can afford.
Whose week absorbed the cost the last time you changed plans?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
