The work improves when feedback is considered before pride decides what it means.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Pride arrives at a conclusion faster than judgment does. Within seconds of hearing a criticism, something in you has already decided whether the person is right, jealous, mistaken or unqualified, and every thought after that is recruited to support the verdict. The comment itself barely gets examined.
When a note comes in, hold it for a day before deciding what it is worth. Read it again when you are calm and ask whether a reader who liked you would have said something similar. Then act on the part that is true and let the rest go, without needing to establish that the person was wrong.
Which criticism did your pride translate before you understood it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
