Sometimes restraint is the most productive action available.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Not doing something can be the highest-value action available. Not replying, not spending, not intervening, not explaining yourself again: each of these takes real effort and produces a real effect, even though nothing appears on the record. The absence of action is invisible, which is why it gets undervalued.

Look for one place this week where the best contribution you could make is to hold still. Then actually hold still, and notice how strongly the urge to do something returns. That urge is worth studying. It usually has more to do with your discomfort than with the situation’s needs.
