A good revision is the maker’s answer to what the feedback revealed.

Revising is not the same as complying. Notes tell you where something went wrong for a reader, and they are reliable about that, while the fixes they suggest are usually just the first thing that came to mind. Your job is to take the diagnosis seriously and then find your own remedy, which is often quite different from the one proposed and better suited to the work.
When you next receive feedback, separate the symptom from the prescription. Write down what each note reveals about how the thing is landing, then solve that in the way only you would.
What would your next draft answer that the last one avoided?
