A household of one still has maintenance, errands, bills, and days when help matters.

One person does not mean half the work. The gutters, the paperwork, the shopping, the waiting in for a delivery all arrive in the same quantity they would for a family, with nobody to split them and nobody to notice on the week it becomes too much. From outside it can look uncomplicated, which is why offers of help so often go somewhere else.

If somebody in your life lives alone, offer something concrete rather than a general willingness. And if you are that person, asking early for a hand with one specific job is easier than asking later for rescue.
