REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Leaving something often comes with an urge to prove it was always wrong, as if the only permission to walk away is a verdict against the whole history. That urge is understandable and usually unfair, mostly to yourself. The years you enjoyed were real while you were living them. A thing can have given you something genuine and still have run out of what it can give.

If you are stepping back from a group, a job or a practice, try writing down two things it did well for you. Keep them alongside the reasons you are leaving. Both can be true at once.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What did you leave and then decide had been worthless all along?
