Useful help fits the recipient’s day, not only the helper’s schedule.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Help offered at the wrong hour can quietly become another task for the person receiving it. They now have to be home, be dressed, be grateful and make conversation, on a day already full. The impulse is generous, but the timing is doing the arranging, and a kind gesture can cost more than it gives. Fitting the offer to their week is most of the skill.
Ask when rather than whether. Give two or three windows instead of one, and mean all of them. If the answer is a day that is inconvenient for you, decide honestly whether you can still do it.
When did your help arrive at a time that suited only you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
