A useful compromise should leave both people able to explain why they accepted it.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
A settlement that only one person can justify is not a compromise; it is an outcome that has not been argued with yet. If someone agreed because they were tired or outnumbered, the reasons will not survive the week. The test is whether each person can say, in their own words, what they got and why it was worth it.
Before you close the next negotiation, ask the other person to say back what they are agreeing to and why it works for them. Listen for reasons rather than resignation.
Which agreement did you accept without being able to say why?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
